finger knitted hoop

I had such a positive response to the crochet tea cosy patterns that I posted a while ago that I thought you might like this finger knitting hula hoop rug idea.

Could be a great project for bored kids in the holidays, or just something you feel like doing for fun.

The pattern is over at Flax & Twine which is a fantastic website for DIYs, patterns, projects and inspiration to endlessly delight you in your quest for a happy handmade life. Anne at Flax & Twine has plenty of simple designs and projects in:

From Anne at Flax & Twine …

Clean and simple design thrills me. I make things for home, for play, for gifts or for fun. More than that, I love showing others how to make them, too! I find peace and happiness in making, but understand the challenges of finding the time as a busy mother of three. Wanting happy-making in my life inspired me to start writing this blog and then, to leave my life in investment banking behind. Stay a while and let me bring a little of my happy handmade life to you!

The rug was made on a hula hoop loom, using an old t-shirt for the warp and a massively huge ball of finger knitting for the weft. I based this project on an incredible t-shirt hula hoop rug I saw on the Disney Family Fun site, where they used strips of t-shirts for the weft. I’ve been wanting to try it with finger-knitting ever since.  B had completed most of this ball at school during read aloud time so I had no idea what I would find in there. What a joy to see the ball unwind and uncover its hidden textures and colours. I haven’t done a lot of weaving in my day, but I must say, I think it is very satisfying. Something about the way it builds on itself snugly and the way it revealed its character with each new stretch of finger-knitting inordinately pleased me.
