If you can’t find the ingredients on that can of air freshener or gel deodoriser, why would you use it? This recipe uses essential oils that not only perfume your home but also carry mood-enhancing benefits and can treat symptoms of fatigue, stress and depression.

It’s a great alternative way to keep your kitchen and bathroom smelling good and let the essential oils get rid of any bugs and germs at the same time.

The bergamot in the freshener mix below gives a lovely citrus smell, and the clove oil – which is highly antiseptic and antiviral – is both comforting and refreshing when mixed with the peppermint and lavender.

Bergamot & Lavender Liquid Air Freshener

10 drops lavender essential oil

5 drops bergamot essential oil

5 drops clove bud essential oil

2 drops peppermint essential oil

1/2 cup vodka or gin

1 cup filtered water

Combine in a spray bottle and spray as frequently as you like, avoiding the eyes. You can experiment with your own blend of oils, depending on your needs, swap out any oils for ones you prefer and keep the ratio. Just remember to mix with the vodka or gin and water.
