Homemade lemon shea body butter

I’m always looking for new ways to use hemp seed oil as a topical skin treatment, with its ability to help heal dry, irritated skin it’s great in a multitude of lotions and potions.

This lemon essential oil scented body butter only has four ingredients plus the essential oils, it’s quick and easy to make and I’m very impressed with the result, a lovely creamy texture and feels super soothing, especially after a hot afternoon in the garden – having a cool shower and applying a generous amount of lemon shea body butter feels heavenly.

Homemade Lemon Shea Body Butter

½ cup shea butter

¼ cup cocoa butter

2 tablespoons hemp seed oil or sweet almond oil or half and half

2 tablespoons coconut oil

20 drops lemon essential oil

4 drops frankincense essential oil

Here’s how to make it:

The best way to melt your oils is in a double boiler (a glass bowl over a pan with water is best), you’ll want the temperature of the water to be hot but not boiling.

Add the shea butter and cocoa butter and melt.

Then pour in the almond or hemp oil and coconut oil and stir well until melted and combined.

Take your bowl off the heat.

Next add the essential oils, you can add a little less or a little more depending on how strong you want it. Stir until everything is combined and set aside too cool.

You can leave the cream as is or whip it with a hand mixer for a thicker creamy version. If you use hemp seed oil and no almond oil it will be a darker colour depending on the brand of hemp seed oil.

Place in a container with a lid and store at room temperature.
