All homes suffer from lurking bad smells at some stage. For most smells you can’t go past Green Goddess Premium Baking Soda for it’s ability to absorb and eliminate odours, it’s an incredibly versatile and effective odour-neutralising agent.
Baking soda is a mild alkali, which means it reacts with acidic compounds commonly found in foul smells, such as those from food, sweat, or mildew. When baking soda comes into contact with these odorous molecules, it undergoes a chemical reaction that neutralises them, effectively eliminating the smell.
One of the reasons baking soda is so useful for eliminating bad smells around the home is its porous structure, which provides a large surface area for odour molecules to interact with. This property allows baking soda to absorb odours effectively, rather than simply masking them with fragrances. It’s particularly effective in enclosed spaces like refrigerators, closets, and shoes, where odours can linger and become unpleasant over time.
Here are some great uses for this fantastic versatile product…
Cutting Boards – Sprinkle on some baking soda, spray with water and leave for 10 minutes. Wash off and leave to dry.
Surfaces – Combine baking soda with Green Goddess Premium White Vinegar, stir to dissolve then scrub down the area. Leave for half an hour and clean as usual.
Rubbish Bins – Sprinkle a good coating of baking soda in the bottom and any unknown leaks or spills will be absorbed. This is particularly useful if you are lining your bin with newspaper instead of plastic.
Urine, Sour Milk, Vomit – Carefully mop up what you can. Make a mixture of 2 tbsp baking soda and 2 cups hot water, spray on generously and leave to dry, then vacuum up. Repeat the process if necessary.
Refrigerators – Use a paste of 1.25 cups baking soda mixed with a little water to clean out your fridge. The paste not only gets it clean but takes away from any odours that may be lurking around as well.
Vacuum Cleaner – Put a few tablespoons onto the surface you are about to vacuum, then vacuum it up and leave in the cleaner until next time.
Rooms – Put some baking soda in a shallow bowl and leave uncovered in the offending room for a few days, if it’s particularly smelly you may need to leave two bowls.
Carpets – Liberally sprinkle baking soda all over the odorous area, you’ll need to thoroughly cover the area so you can barely see the carpet. Distribute into the fibres by gently rubbing with a brush. Leave for 24 hours then vacuum up.
Car odour – Sprinkle on the seats and floor, leave overnight then vacuum, redo the process for particularly bad smells, you can also leave baking soda in the carpet for a few days if necessary.
Drain or waste disposal – A few tablespoons straight down the drain can help, run the hot tap for about 30 seconds.
Shoes – Baking soda sprinkled into the offending shoes and left overnight does the trick, empty in the morning and wipe clean.
