Have you noticed that your dryer is smelling a little musty and kind of like old socks? This is not a smell that you want permeating clean washed clothes.
It’s time to give your clothes dryer a good clean and deodorise using only natural products. This method is very effective, easy to do and doesn’t harm your health or the environment.
How To Clean Your Clothes Dryer
First, make sure you’ve thoroughly cleaned the lint remover and any vents; remove all catchment parts, remove all lint by hand then vacuum with the brush attachment on your vacuum hose. If there’s still residue, rinse the part under warm water and let dry thoroughly before reattaching.
Next, get Green Goddess Premium White Vinegar and pour about a tablespoon onto a clean cloth, run it around the inside of the dryer and under the rubber seals that seal the door. The vinegar will deodorise your clothes dryer, leave the door open until the smell of the vinegar has gone. I then put a couple of drops of Lemon Essential Oil into the air vent for a more pleasant smell when it’s going.
If you have a seriously bad smell – perhaps a load of towels has been left in there damp for an extended period and you can’t get the smell out – you may need to go to the next level with your clean.
Make a solution of one part Green Goddess Premium Baking Soda to ten parts water, stir well until dissolved. Next get a couple of old full sized towels and soak in the mixture for about five minutes, squeeze excess water out and dry on high. The towels will absorb odours within the dryer as they dry. Again, clean as above and add the oil to the vent if desired.
You should now have a clean, good smelling clothes dryer that won’t distribute odours through your freshly washed clothes.
