Eating fresh fruits and vegetables is essential for a healthy diet, but did you know that your produce might be covered in chemical residues from pesticides, fertilisers, and wax coatings?

While organic options can reduce exposure to these contaminants, conventional produce often requires a thorough cleaning to remove unwanted substances.

One of the best natural and affordable ways to do this is by using white vinegar. If you are using our cleaning vinegar you only need half as much.

Why Use White Vinegar?

White vinegar is a natural, non-toxic cleaner that helps remove pesticides, bacteria, and wax from produce. Its acetic acid content can break down residues and kill harmful microbes, making it a safer alternative to commercial produce washes.

How to Use White Vinegar to Clean Your Produce

Prepare the Vinegar Solution

Fill a large bowl or a clean sink with water.

Add one part white vinegar to three parts water. For example, use 1 cup of vinegar for every 3 cups of water.

Soak the Produce

Place your fruits and vegetables in the solution.

Let them soak for about 10–15 minutes to allow the vinegar to break down any residue.

Scrub If Needed

For produce with thick skins (like apples, cucumbers, or potatoes), use a soft brush to gently scrub away wax and debris.

Rinse Thoroughly

After soaking, drain the vinegar solution and rinse the produce under cold running water to remove any remaining vinegar taste.

Dry and Store

Pat the produce dry with a clean towel or let it air dry before storing it in the refrigerator or on the counter.

Tips for Best Results

Leafy Greens: Soak in the vinegar solution for about 5 minutes, then rinse each leaf thoroughly.

Berries: Use a gentler approach—soak for only 5 minutes and rinse immediately to prevent them from absorbing too much vinegar.

Root Vegetables: Scrub with a brush after soaking to remove dirt and residue.
