this is a mop sock

This clever invention was designed by New Zealand mum Hannah Smith and is a fantastic non-toxic way to get your floor clean. The Mopsock is a microfibre quilted sponge (made using environmentally friendly bamboo fibre) that fits over the head of your broom or vacuum to transform it into a mop.

I have used one and it works really well with my homemade floor cleaner sprayed onto the mop sock.

They are reversible so you can flip them over during mopping to get an extra clean finish and when you’re done they can easily be cleaned in the washing machine. There’s a link at the end of the article if you are interested in trying one for yourself.

How to use your Mopsock

The Mopsock is SO simple to use:

Once you have finished vacuuming or sweeping turn off your vacuum cleaner.

Rinse your mopsock under warm water adding detergent if you choose to. Wring out excess moisture.

Fit your mopsock over the vacuum or broom floor tool.

Mop your floor!

Mopsocks are reversible so you can flip the Mopsock over during mopping to get a super clean finish. Once you’re done simply remove the Mopsock and put it in the washing machine ready for next time. Always remember it is important that your vacuum cleaner is switched off while you are using your Mopsock. A great way to use the mopsock for particularly dirty floors is first scrub the floor with a hot soapy broom then fit a dry Mopsock over the broom and give the floor a final polish.

How the Mopsock came about

After years of mops sitting rusty and unused in the cupboard and trying almost every cleaning product on the market, Hannah gave up and cleaned her floor the old fashioned way – on her hands and knees using a decent cloth!

One day after vacuuming she threw her wet cloth onto the floor and, using the vacuum’s suction to hold it in place, mopped her floor with the vacuum handle. This worked brilliantly but was not so great for her vacuum’s motor.

As an industrial design graduate, Hannah immediately set about designing a product that did not need to be sucked onto the end of the vacuum but instead fitted onto the head of the floor tool. The final design was a microfibre quilted sponge that was fabricated to fit snugly over the floor tool of a vacuum and could be used with the vacuum switched off. Once she had a prototype she found that it also fitted over her broom. The “Mopsock” was born.
