LUCASCRUZ
We love taking Cruz for a walk off the lead in Auckland. There are some great spots for a good romp.  A couple of weeks ago we noticed he was getting a bad rash under his belly where he has less fur. We know it’s not from his diet as we have already sorted that out, so what caused this mysterious outbreak?  As it turns out, it’s Auckland City Council spraying weeds and path edges causing the grass along the side that he runs through to be covered in toxic chemicals!! Of course, we couldn’t tell that this had happened at the time – it only became apparent later on when everything started to die off.
For the past 20 years, many parts of Auckland (and other regions) have enjoyed chemical-free vegetation control measures with the use of organic herbicides, hot water, and steam which are effective and risk-free. So why are they now increasing the use of chemicals on almost every street and park in Auckland while ignoring the huge number of scientific reports that link glyphosate to cancer, hormone disruption, birth defects, neurological issues – the list goes on.
To voice my dissatisfaction I signed up to this site http://sprayfreestreets.nz/join-us/  Here you can add your name to their open letter and you can volunteer to help in a number of ways. If you are in the Auckland area Council are meeting tomorrow September 1st 9.30am in the Town Hall to agree to the scope of the Weed Management review. The more people showing their support for chemical free safe options, the more likely they are to listen. You can view the agenda here.
