Warm Earth Cottage is a beautiful retreat nestled in a valley just south of Katikati, in the Bay of Plenty. It’s unique as there’s only two cabins, giving guests the opportunity to truely unwind and recharge in privacy, surrounded by nature. There’s no electricity in either cabin, just the soft natural glow of candle light. Retreat offerings include massage therapies, yoga, meditation and forest bathing.
Jan, the owner of this gorgeous couples retreat, is kindly offering a two night stay with breakfast hamper included as a gift for one of the amazing volunteers (and their partner) who have been selflessly helping others with the clean up caused by the floods in the Hawkes Bay. We are asking that our subscribers put someone forward who they think is deserving of a break away.

Warm Earth Romantic Getaway, Couples Retreat & Accommodation Katikati NZ
We offer you a unique experience. A time to talk, reflect, communicate, a chance to relax, reignite the fire, or just chill out in the privacy of your own secluded slice of heaven.
Our two romantic cabins are nestled in a valley just south of the mural town of Katikati, and north of Tauranga in New Zealand’s Bay of Plenty. They are designed after the old NZ miners cottages of yesteryear, no electricity, just the warm evocative light of candles and a lantern and an outside bush bath (lit for you at dusk). Wow. Relax in the outdoor bush bath with a romantic wine or two, with just the sounds of the Waitekohe Stream and the night birds and watch the world and stars go by.
We’re very privileged to have a very special lady called Angela Matheson who does massage/pamper treatments, as well as yoga/mediation, for cabin guests.
Our two cabins offer beautifully appointed accommodation and are available for short or long term stays – ideal for honeymoons or romantic getaways. Even a night stolen from the world works wonders for the soul.
A breakfast hamper is delivered to your cabin in the morning so that you can barbeque your own breakfast on your cabin veranda at your leisure.
A barbeque dinner hamper is available, prepared by Master Chef Trudie and caters for 2 persons. Cost is $90, prepaid at time of booking and non-refundable 2 weeks prior to your stay. Click on link to Tastes page to view the menu.
Forta Leza restaurant, 2 kilometres away, can provide most of their standard dinners and pizzas as “take-aways” for our guests who can select from the menu placed in each cabin. You can pre-order meals from these and pick up and pay at the arranged time. Ideal for easy meals.
The lounge cabin is separate from the accommodation cabins and serves as a place of quiet contemplation where you can take a book from its library, sprawl out in front of the fire, listen to some music or simply sit and relax.
Each cottage accommodates one adult couple only and is not suitable for children or pets and we would appreciate if you do not press us on these because we cannot accept either. And sorry, terrain and buildings are not wheelchair friendly.
Cabins have their own woodburning stove which keeps you cozy and warm on cold days and nights. The veranda has a barbeque on which to cook your food and a gas burner to boil the billy for a cuppa. A delightful breakfast hamper is left on your veranda in the morning for you to cook when you’re ready. If required, a cold continental breakfast can be substituted. Please advise us in advance if you have any food intolerances and we will do our best to provide an alternative.
Each cabin is equipped with quality furniture, linen and a very comfortable queen-size bed, fluffy towels, robes for the bush bath, sufficient cutlery, crockery, tea and coffee making facilities and a verandah deck for relaxation and contemplation. Although a small fridge is available in the lounge cabin you may find it more convenient during the summer months to bring your own chilly bin which you can keep at your cabin to have milk, cold drinks etc on hand.
A toilet and wash basin room is attached to each cabin but shower facilities are shared in a bathroom cabin situated halfway between the guest cabins.
A highly popular and unique experience is a private, wood-fired bush bath located beside each cabin which is lit for you at dusk. The baths have proved to be the highlight for most guests when they can enjoy a leisurely soak under the stars while sipping away at a wine or two.
There is no power in the cottages, there are plenty of candles to light your room at night and there is powder in the lounge cottage along with a small fridge, each cottage has a bbq, gas burner to heat your cuppa and crockery etc. There is also a wonderful outdoor bush bath and fluffy robes are provided for the short walk two and fro.
All you need is the ability to relax, enjoy the peace – and each other.
