“The Journey Bag is the answer to the problem you never knew you had.”

A group of four year 12 students from Roncalli College in Timaru are involved in a class called Y.E.S which is designed to develop students into young entrepreneurs. They are an eco-friendly and eco-conscious group who set about developing a versatile bag that can be used as both a travel and a wash bag.

The group reached out to Green Goddess to assist with an eco-friendly detergent that could be used with their design that wouldn’t be harmful to the environment and we were only too happy to oblige. To help start off their campaign we have provided them with travel sized laundry powder sachets.

Their goal was simple. To get their product into the hands of hundreds of Kiwis and make a positive change to their explorations around our beautiful country by providing a lightweight, reusable product for their travels, which had no impact on the the environment.

Did you know that each time you use a washing machine you may be releasing over 700,000 microscopic plastic fibres into the environment? Using the Journey Bag to wash your clothes stops this from happening.

You can re-use the Journey Bag as many time as you like and it’s pretty straight forward to use. It comes with a small inner mesh bag which is attached to the outer bag and has a draw string tie.

You fill this mesh section with your laundry and add the right amount of detergent. Close the draw string, add your water, roll down the top of the bag three times and clip closed. Proceed to use the motion of using a rolling pin to wash your laundry.

Open the bag and empty the dirty water, refill with fresh water for the “rinse cycle”. Repeat the process of closing the bag and washing the laundry. Once this is done, open the bag and empty of water.

Fold the outer layer of the bag backwards to reveal the mesh portion which you then squeeze to remove excess water and proceed to spin in order to achieve the “spin cycle” effect. Then remove clothes to dry both them and the bag.

Priced at NZ $74.99, the 8L Journey Bag comes packaged in a small box made from recycled cardboard, which can again be recycled and does not harm the environment with any unnecessary plastic. It will also include 1 sachet of Green Goddess travel sized laundry powder and backpack straps / washing line.
