many jars on a bench ready to be sterilised

How many jars have you got stashed away in your cupboard waiting to have the labels removed but you just haven’t got around to it yet because it seems like a bothersome job? Different labels have different adhesives which can make removing the label a breeze or a lot more difficult.

This natural method makes all types of label removal a lot easier, and there are no harsh chemicals involved.

Easy Jar Label Removal

First of all take the lids off your jars and set aside. Don’t try to pull the labels off while dry.

Run a sink of hot water (the hotter the better) and add a few squirts of dish wash liquid (our Green Goddess Hemp & Eucalyptus Liquid Castile Cleaning & Dish Wash works well).

Put your jars into the sink and soak for at least half an hour, take out and peel or rub the label off, this will work for most labels but not all. If your jar is clear of the label and residue wash and dry ready to be reused.

If you still have residue on the jar make a paste of equal parts Green Goddess Premium Baking Soda and oil. I used The Hemp Farm Hemp Seed Oil because I had it on hand, however any oil will do. These two products will help remove the adhesive, the oil will soften up the glue while the baking soda’s abrasiveness will remove it from the jar.

Rub the paste all over the jar where the glue residue is, leave it on for a few minutes. Then with your hands rub the paste all over the area until you can feel the glue come free. At this stage you can either wipe off with a cloth or rinse it off if you are sure it’s all gone.

If there’s still some reside left you may need a little extra oomph, grab one of our eco sponges instead and repeat the process but instead of a cloth use the scrubber side of the eco sponge to remove the last dregs.

Wash both the eco sponge and your jar and leave to dry.
