Now that summer is approaching and wearing bare feet and sandals is just around the corner, it’s time to give your feet, and, in particular, your heels some love.

This balm is wonderfully nourishing on dry skin thanks to the anti-inflammatory effect of hemp seed oil which is rich in antioxidants; the skin-smoothing qualities of shea butter; and the healing power of Earthbound Raw Manuka Honey.

If you do suffer from cracked heels, keep away from harsh soaps and cleansers, and opt for a natural soap that will lock in the moisture instead of strip it out.  Also avoid skin care products that contain alcohol, fragrance or retinoids as they can be too harsh for dry, cracked skin.

Ingredients

15g Beeswax*

90g Coconut Oil*

30g Shea Butter*

10g Earthbound Raw Manuka Honey

20g Hemp Seed Oil or Jojoba Oil (add a little more if needed)

4 drops Lavender Essential Oil

3 drops Neroli Essential Oil

2 drops Chamomile Essential Oil

Method

Melt the beeswax and coconut oil in a glass bowl placed in a saucepan of simmering water (DIY double boiler) once melted and starting to combine add the shea butter. Watch the mixture carefully and remove from heat as soon as the shea butter is melted.

Remove the bowl from the heat, stir in the Manuka honey, hemp seed oil and essential oils. Let cool to room temperature. You can place the bowl in the refrigerator for a few minutes to cool faster but keep an eye on it as you don’t want it to set.

Once at room temperature get out your hand mixer and whip until a creamy butter is formed. This recipe makes 165g.

Use this balm after every shower, bath or swim. Also use again at night, put the balm on your heels and feet then put on cotton or natural fibre socks (hemp or bamboo fibre are great), this will help your skin to breathe whilst keeping the balm where it should be and not all over your sheets.
