Some of you keen gardeners may be planting out seedlings at the moment and I thought I’d share a great trick I learned recently. My garden up north was completely raided by pheasants while I was away. I have a fence around it but they seem to be able to fly or leap over it. So I invested in some bird scare tape, which is silver on one side and red on the other—it’s also very shiny. So my daughter Hannah and I erected some string over the garden and tied on lengths of the tape. Then we discovered that when the wind blows it also makes a great noise. So far, no more raids by birds so why not think of doing this yourself in your garden this year?
