This week our guest blogger is our friend Jaklin from The Modern Health Box, talking about her wonderful experience with LED light therapy. I found this article fascinating and am really keen to try this therapy myself as there are no toxic chemicals involved, only light.  Will let you all know how I get on. Here’s what Jaklin discovered on her healing journey.

“Ever since I can remember I have always had severe redness in my cheeks, and my face would flush easily due to weather conditions and changes in temperature or diet. What I later discovered when I got older was that I suffered from a skin condition called ‘rosacea.’ For those who don’t know what rosacea is – it is a condition in which certain facial blood vessels enlarge, giving the cheeks and nose a flushed appearance.

I became very insecure about my skin…always trying to cover up my face with makeup. To make matters worse wearing foundation or concealer only made the condition more aggressive. I had to think of a way, surely there was something out there that could help me manage this issue?

I can’t begin to explain how much time and money I have wasted on skin care products and treatments in order to solve this problem. Everything from laser pigmentation removal treatments (which cost an absolute fortune), to expensive skin care products.

I was continuously being told that these treatments would help ‘eliminate’ my rosacea – leaving out a crucial fact that no matter what you do, you can never fully get rid of rosacea because after time it will always come back. I know, doesn’t sound very encouraging does it. I began doing extensive research on this, reading testimonials and about other people’s experiences on the topic.

Miraculously I stumbled upon a Dave Asprey article which positively talked about LED light therapy and it’s benefits. I looked for further evidence, reading more articles – and the feedback had been phenomenal. People were highly raving about the fact that this treatment actually helped ‘cool down’ the symptoms and improve their skin texture, wrinkles and pigmentation amongst other benefits – I thought I’ve got to try this!

At first I did the treatment at my skin clinic, but I decided it was too much money so I purchased an LED mask (best investment to date) which I now use at home. After doing this treatment for 1 month I began to see the following results:

  • The redness on my cheeks had ‘cooled off’ – with white coloured areas of skin now appearing through

  • My skin texture visibly improved

  • My skin elasticity visibly improved

  • My skin felt a lot softer but with less sensitivity

  • My skin felt a lot ‘plumper’ – I no longer had the ‘sunk in’ effect of frown lines or smile lines

SO, WHY SHOULD YOU USE IT?

According to ‘The Wall Street Journal’ – Skin LED light therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for several aspects of skin ageing and other conditions. Multiple studies have demonstrated the improvement of fine lines, hyper pigmentation and skin redness – which are supported by collagen production and an increase in the skin proliferation.”

HOW IT WORKS

LED light therapy uses specific wavelengths of light which give off energy that is used in many applications – this is known as Photo Therapy. LED stands for ‘Light Emitting Diode.’ Diodes give off energy in the form of light that is powerful, bright, efficient and is primarily used to kill of bacteria that cause spots.

RED LIGHT

Stimulates the production of collagen, which is an essential protein used to repair damaged tissue and replace the old tissue. It specifically targets fine lines and wrinkles, but will also help reduce large pores.

BLUE LIGHT

Bacteria in acne contain Porphyrins; the blue light is able to kill Porphyrins due to the high affinity with it’s wave length. Furthermore, it has a calming action which is very effective for rosacea and hypersensitivity.

GREEN LIGHT

Can balance colour pigment, reduce fine lines and speed up the healing process of various wounds as well as lighten up certain scars.
