Over time, food particles, grease, and mineral deposits can build up inside your dishwasher. This buildup can affect the efficiency of your dishwasher, leading to poor cleaning performance and longer cycle times. Deep cleaning helps remove these deposits, allowing your dishwasher to function at its best.
Borax is a highly alkaline substance, meaning it has a high pH level. This alkalinity enhances its cleaning power, particularly for tasks that require breaking down and removing grease, oils, and other organic substances. It can help cut through tough stains and buildup effectively.
Deep cleaning your dishwasher not only improves its performance but also promotes better hygiene, reduces odours, and helps maintain its longevity. It is a simple yet effective maintenance practice that can benefit both your dishwasher and the cleanliness of your dishes.
If your dishwasher has a lingering odour, it may be a sign of trapped food particles or bacteria. Deep cleaning helps eliminate these odours, providing a fresher and more pleasant-smelling dishwasher.
Buildup of food particles and mineral deposits can clog the spray arms, nozzles, and filters in your dishwasher, leading to reduced water flow and potential blockages. Deep cleaning helps prevent these clogs, ensuring that water can freely circulate throughout the dishwasher, resulting in cleaner and more efficient wash cycles.
How To Deep Clean Your Dishwasher With Borax
First of all make sure your dishwasher is empty ant that there are no dishes, utensils, or other items left inside.
Remove any debris or food particles from the dishwasher’s filter and drain.
Prepare a borax solution: In a bowl or a measuring cup, mix 1/4 cup of premium borax with 1 cup of warm water to create a borax solution. Stir well until the borax is completely dissolved.
Pour the borax solution into the bottom of the dishwasher. Using a sponge (one of our eco sponges works well for this) or cloth soaked in the borax solution, scrub the interior surfaces of the dishwasher. Pay special attention to areas prone to buildup, such as the door, gasket, and around the edges. Clean the racks, utensil holders, and any removable parts as well.
Once you have finished scrubbing leave the the borax solution to sit in the dishwasher for about 15-20 minutes. This will give the borax time to break down any stubborn stains or residue.
Next add 3 tablespoons of borax to the bottom of the dishwasher and run a hot water cycle.
To keep your dishwasher free from odours and buildup run a hot cycle with premium double strength white cleaning vinegar every month, you can also use premium double strength white cleaning vinegar in the rinse compartment to keep your dishes sparkling.
