How To Do An Underarm Detox

Posted on November 12 2025

Have you ever thought about what’s really in your everyday deodorant or antiperspirant? Many conventional options contain a cocktail of harsh chemicals that block your sweat glands and can be absorbed directly into your body through the delicate skin and lymph nodes under your arms.

Common ingredients found in commercial antiperspirants include aluminium, formaldehyde, phthalates, parabens, and propylene glycol (yes - that’s antifreeze). These chemicals are best avoided, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer or are simply aiming to reduce your daily toxin exposure.

If you or someone you know hasn’t yet made the switch to a natural deodorant, now’s the perfect time to do it!

When changing over, you might notice a bit of extra sweating or even a mild rash under your arms - but don’t worry, this is completely normal.

It’s simply your body detoxing and releasing built-up toxins. Sweating is a natural and essential process, but years of using antiperspirants can block this function and trap toxins beneath the skin. Switching to a natural deodorant allows your body to restore its natural balance.

To help ease the transition, try doing an underarm detox. Just as you’d use a mask to draw out impurities from your face, an underarm detox helps cleanse the skin, remove buildup, and support your body’s natural ability to sweat — the healthy way.

Post-detox, you will need a natural deodorant - our popular totally natural deodorants do a fantastic job and we are often told they are the only natural deodorants that actually work.

Under Arm Detox

1 tablespoon bentonite clay (I use Pure South)

1 teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar

1 drop tea tree essential oil (helps to kill odour causing bacteria), if you are sensitive to essential oils leave this out

1-2 teaspoons of filtered water to get right consistency

Instructions

Get a glass bowl and wooden or non-metal spoon, add all the ingredients and mix into a paste with the water. You may not need all the water so put in a little at a time.

Sit calmly and spread the paste over your armpits in an even layer. Leave on for 5-10 minutes, longer is better however it's a good idea to start slowly and work up to a longer period of time once you see how your body adjusts. If it starts to hurt, remove the paste and try again the following day.

Initially the detox may cause some redness as the blood-flow will increase to your underarm area but it should quickly disappear.

The easiest way to wash the detox paste off is to hop in the shower and use a washcloth. If you are using soap make sure it's totally natural, I use Green Goddess Hemp & Rose Liquid Castile Body Soap, it smells lovely and doesn't dry out skin.

Repeat the underarm detox daily or as needed.
