Organic Flour Mills NZ

I’ve just discovered Organic Flour Mills after a recent recommendation, and they sound great! Their flours are organic, they have a great range to choose from, and they only mill whole grains into whole-grain flours.
There are seven different organic flours: wheat (or wholemeal), rye, spelt, plus four gluten-free options – buckwheat, millet, quinoa, and long-grain brown rice. Such a great variety! Whether you’re into bread making, pizza bases, cakes, or gluten-free baking, there’s something for everyone.
Nothing refined, nothing added – just pure flour with all the natural nutrition still inside.
That means you get:
Bran, rich in fibre, B vitamins, minerals, and protein
Germ, full of healthy fats, vitamin E, and more B vitamins
Endosperm, providing energy and structure for your baking
With refined flours, so much of this goodness is stripped away. But here, everything is left intact.
You won’t find white flour at Organic Flour Mills – and for good reason. Conventional milling removes the bran and the germ to extend shelf life, which means the flour loses its nutritional punch. Even flour labelled “wholemeal” in New Zealand usually only has some bran added back in, while the germ is lost completely (and sold separately as wheatgerm).
Their philosophy is all about keeping flour as natural and nourishing as possible.
The flours are milled using Zentrofan cyclone mills, which are quite different from commercial roller or stone mills. These mills don’t overheat the flour, so the nutrients stay intact, and they grind more finely too. That means the flour is light and versatile, perfect for bread that rises well, as well as cookies, pastries, or cakes.
