How to Fold a Fitted Sheet Without Losing Your Mind!

Let's be honest, fitted sheets can be incredibly frustrating to fold! No matter how neatly you start, those elasticated corners seem determined to turn the whole thing into a crumpled ball.

I came across a really helpful video showing exactly how to fold a fitted sheet properly, and I loved how upbeat, clear and easy to follow it was. Once you see the technique, it actually starts to make sense!

The trick is all in the corners. By folding each corner neatly into the next, you can turn that awkward elasticated sheet into a much more manageable rectangle.

How to Do It

1. Start with the sheet inside out

Hold the fitted sheet by two adjacent corners, with one hand inside each corner.

2. Bring the first two corners together

Take one corner and fold it neatly over the other so they sit inside each other.

3. Find the next corner

Work your way along the elastic edge to find the third corner and tuck this neatly over the two corners you're already holding.

4. Add the final corner

Repeat with the fourth corner so all four corners are neatly folded into each other. This is the clever bit that helps hide all that awkward elastic!

5. Straighten and smooth the sheet

Give it a little shake, straighten the edges and lay it on a flat surface. You should now have something that resembles a rectangle rather than a giant piece of fabric with a mind of its own! 😄

6. Fold into thirds

Fold the sheet into thirds lengthways, smoothing as you go.

7. Fold again

Finally, fold it into thirds or in half again, depending on the size you want for your linen cupboard.

And there you have it, a neatly folded fitted sheet!

It may take a couple of attempts to get the hang of it, but once you understand the corner trick, it's much easier. A neatly folded fitted sheet also makes storing your bedding far less bulky and keeps the linen cupboard looking much tidier.

Watch the video below and give it a go next time you're changing the sheets. I think this is one of those tips that is much easier to understand once you actually see someone do it!
