Homemade Natural Lip balm

Posted on March 11 2026

Lip balm is something I reach for more regularly when the weather turns cooler. It’s one of those small everyday essentials that lives in handbags, pockets, bedside drawers and bathroom cabinets.

I like this recipe because it’s so easy to make. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a lip balm that works well and avoids the unnecessary additives often found in commercial products.

It’s quick to put together and a great introduction if you’re new to making your own natural skincare.

What I particularly like about this recipe is the texture. It glides on smoothly, feels light rather than waxy, and helps protect and soften dry lips. The blend of oils and wax creates a gentle barrier that locks in moisture without feeling heavy or greasy.

Homemade Natural Lip Balm

20ml sweet almond oil

1⁄2 tsp beeswax, grated, or beeswax pellets, cosmetic grade

1⁄2 tsp cocoa butter

1 capsule vitamin E

5 drops essential oil (Orange Sweet, Rose Geranium and Peppermint all work well)

Melt oil, beeswax and cocoa butter in a double boiler (or use a bowl sitting on a saucepan of gently boiling water, making sure the bottom of the bowl stays above the water). Stir once melted to combine.

Once combined take it off the heat and add vitamin E by piercing the capsule and pouring the oil in. Add the essential oils, stir and pour into a lip balm jar.
