More and more people are turning to organic and natural products, we are becoming so much more aware of what goes in and around our bodies. This week Jenny McDee shared her article on the importance of choosing natural and organic products whenever possible.

“With more than 64 percent of New Zealanders willing to pay more for natural and organic products, according to Organics Aotearoa, it’s no surprise that making more natural lifestyle choices are expanding to all aspects of our lives. But is it really better for us and the environment? Whether you’re looking for ways to protect your hair or wanting to change your eating habits, the reduction of pesticides and chemicals can only help to contribute towards saving our environment, and here’s some reasons why.

Benefits from growing organic food

Many of us don’t always necessarily think about where the food we eat comes from but eating organically produced food has a lot more impact on the environment than simply ending up as a healthier option on our plates. In order to grow healthy food, we must first start with healthy soil which is free from harmful pesticides and chemicals. Natural cultivation methods ensure that plants, soil, water and air supplies will not be contaminated or cause other environmental problems such as damage to our biodiversity so that going organic is beneficial for nature.

Choosing to use organic and natural beauty products

The demand for organic and natural personal care products has seen a dramatic increase on a global level as more people are deciding not to use makeup, hair and beauty products that have chemical ingredients. Putting harsh toxins onto our skin, such as petroleum, aluminium and lead means we’re also contributing to extensive mining in areas of natural beauty like the Amazon rain-forest which are being destroyed by the damage caused to the land and wildlife. In contrast, when we choose the best organic makeup brands and other beauty products, we are not only helping to reduce the impact on the environment but are also being much kinder to our skin.

Taking steps towards a more natural and organic lifestyle

Opting for organic food, natural cleaning and organic beauty products has gone far and beyond the arguments of animal testing and living conditions of the animals who provide the food we eat. In today’s modern shift towards a more natural lifestyles choices, we are also concerned about how conventional methods are impacting on the air we breathe, our health and preserving the ecology in New Zealand.

The good news is that there are plenty of eco-friendly alternatives on the market that are being grown, produced and made right here so that we can all make the choice of making our environment a healthier place to live.”
