We discovered the wonders of wheatgrass a few years ago when my sister’s son Calvin was growing it for a school project. He had to do extensive research on its nutritional value, how best to grow a productive crop, and the best way to extract the juice from the grass – which is not as easy as it sounds.

Over that period, we all got to drink plenty of wheatgrass, and I saw a noticeable improvement in my health. Today, we use a powdered version to make things a little easier. This article from Jaklin at The Modern Health Box is about her journey to wellness using this superfood.

What makes wheatgrass so valuable …

It was only a few years ago that I began experiencing major hormonal changes such as weight gain and an overall imbalance of my internal system and how it was functioning. My skin would break out, I had major hair loss issues due to hormonal imbalances, stomach pains (gastritis), mood swings, my rosacea (severe skin condition) became very aggressive, my weight kept fluctuating and I found that overall I would get sick really easily.

The first thing I did was a blood test from my family doctor, who told me that my blood pH was too acidic and my Iron levels were low. She then strongly suggested was that I make a change to my diet, reducing alcohol consumption and processed foods without nutrients.

By that stage I was sitting there thinking “ok…where to start?” then I had a brilliant idea! Why not look on Google? :). When I got home that day I started to look into ways that I could overcome some of these issues naturally, or at least get them somewhat under control – and I stumbled on an organic health supplement which

came in a powdered form called wheatgrass.

DEFINITION  …  Wheatgrass is the young grass of the wheat plant – Triticum aestivum.

At first, I began taking two table spoons with purified water before breakfast every single morning for about three months – and the results were phenomenal! Some of the major changes that I began to witness were:

My skin began to clear up, it had a lot more moisture to it and my rosacea began to ‘cool off’

I no longer felt stomach pain, it soothed my stomach layering through its alkalising properties

My energy levels significantly increased, I would wake up feeling less tired and more alert

My Iron levels became normal

My hair loss decreased by roughly 30%

My appetite decreased due to my body receiving the vitamins and minerals that it craved

I thought this was amazing. To see such good results from a simple product by having one glass a day blew my mind. You’re probably sitting there thinking “ok that’s all very good for you but show me some facts!” So in addition to my story, here is a summary of research that was conducted by a health expert Dr. Mark Hyman (quoted widely by Tony Robbins) on wheatgrass and its benefits. Wheatgrass is a great source of:

VITAMINS

Vitamin A (aids bone growth, eyesight, and reproduction)

Vitamin B (aids brain and body development, the adrenal glands and the nervous and digestive systems)

Vitamin C (aids the development of healthy skin, teeth, gums, eyes, muscles and joints)

Vitamin E (helps the heart and reproductive systems in a form that is much more daily absorbed by the body than synthetic vitamins

MINERALS

Calcium (builds strong bones and teeth, regulates the heart, an

d helps balance the blood pH)

Iron (aids red blood cell formation and the transport of oxygen to the cells)

Sodium (helps digestion, elimination and the regulation of body fluids)

Potassium (balances the body, tones muscles, firms skin)

Magnesium (helps muscle function and elimination)

AMINO ACIDS

Wheatgrass contains 17 amino acids, including all 8 of the essential amino acids (which comprise proteins in the body). These are the 8 amino acids that the body cannot manufacture by itself – it must s

ynthesise these from the foods we eat.

 OTHER BENEFITS

Wheatgrass contains a lot of enzymes and also stimulates the body to produce its own natural enzymes. It also stimulates peristalsis and supports thyroid function.

SO WHY NOT TRY IT?!

By now you must be thinking “I’ve got to try this stuff!” – And you’re

right, you should. So to help you make the first step “break the ice” if you wish, I have included my own morning recipe which has given me unbelievable results in feeling good both internally and externally.

Put 2 tablespoons of wheatgrass powder into a glass

Add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

Squeeze 1 lemon (with or without pulp, I prefer pulp)

Add distilled refrigerated water
