As you know I avoid commercial anti-perspirants because I believe that we are meant to sweat. That’s how our body gets rid of toxins just as a car has an exhaust pipe – and you wouldn’t block that up!
Research is finding that it is important not to kill off your body bacteria which is there for a reason – to help fight infections and to keep everything in balance. The study didn’t come to any conclusions about the benefits of underarm bacteria, but it did find that antiperspirants do a good job of killing it off.
So I was interested to read this article about a study which looked into how anti-perspirants affect your body bacteria.
There is no doubt some people sweat profusely and smell foul. But there are many others whose body odour ranges from mild to non-existent, and they could probably get by without rolling chemicals on every morning.
Here’s a few solutions you can try – always wait several hours after shaving before applying though, your skin will be super sensitive and needs time to normalise.
Use one of our totally natural deodorants, this is the easiest and most effective option.
Cider vinegar or white vinegar dabbed under the arms not only keeps you incredibly clean but neutralises the pH levels.
Pat baking soda onto your underarms with a powder puff or similar.
A cut lemon rubbed under your arms is great.
Make a solution of 3 Tbsp witch hazel, 2 Tbsp vodka, 2 tsp glycerine and 30 drops of your favourite essential oils, blended. Pour into a spray bottle and spray away.
Essential oils that are particularly good for disguising odours are patchouli (although you will smell like a hippy, which could be worse than the original problem), cypress, lime and bergamot.
