THUMBSUCKING

Here’s an interesting study done here in New Zealand at the University of Otago about thumb sucking and nail biting children being less prone to developing allergies. I can only think that the annoying habits work like some kind of self-vaccination where the children ingest small amounts of substances that activate their body’s immune systems which then makes them stronger and more resistant to higher doses. The article doesn’t describe the mechanism, but I’m sure that will follow shortly.
