I’m always on the lookout for scientific studies on the effects food food has on us even though sometimes, it is all a bit contradictory and on one day coffee, red wine, and olive oil are good for you, and the next day they are all terrible!  But now I just won’t believe anything I read after an investigation found that in the 60s the sugar industry paid scientists to release false research to prove that sugar had nothing to do with the rising rates of heart disease. And instead, they wrongly blamed saturated fat. That sent everyone to margarine which is basically a chemical cocktail of nastiness.You can read more in the New York Times story here. 
It reports that even though the influence-peddling revealed in the documents dates back nearly 50 years, more recent reports show that the food industry has continued to influence nutrition science.
Last year, an article in The New York Times revealed that Coca-Cola, the world’s largest producer of sugary beverages, had provided millions of dollars in funding to researchers who sought to play down the link between sugary drinks and obesity.
So it all gets back to some simple rules. Ignore so called studies because you never know who paid for them and eat a simple diet following Michael Pollan’s suggestion:Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. Click here to read his seven rules for eating.
