white sheets in pile

There’s nothing like crisp white sheets! Who doesn’t love it when they’re starched and ironed on a freshly made bed.

My Mum loves the feeling and although she comes to stay every month I haven’t quite got around to starching and ironing them. Instead I prefer to throw them on the line and let the sun crisp them up and give them that gorgeous smell after using our essential oil scented laundry powder and our bluing powder to remove yellow tones.

However, if you want to have hotel-standard sheets (especially for Mum) here are some great starch ideas:

Save the cooking water from rice, pasta or potatoes and add to the rinse cycle of your wash. I just throw the whole lot in and the sheets come out nice and crisp after a day in the sun.

Make starch by mixing 4 tsp cornflour to 1 cup water and add to the final rinse. If you have a large washing machine, mix up 2 cups.

You can starch and iron if you really don’t have anything better to do. Mix 2 tsp cornflour with 1 cup water and put in a spray bottle. Spray before you iron. I throw about 10 drops of lavender oil in as well for a great scent.
