As the temperatures start to drop plenty of us tend to start making the mistake of skipping out on our daily sunscreen routine although many of us don’t realise using a natural sunscreen is just as important to be wearing throughout the winter months!
I put my Sun Butter Tinted Sunscreen on my face every morning. Here’s why:
UV Rays are present all year round!
UV can be broken down into UVA, UVB. UVB is responsible for most immediate sun burns. UVA is still present all year round and is most known for its long term damage as it penetrates deeper into our skin. TIP: Think UVAgeing and UVBurning. UVA is also able to penetrate through clouds so even on a cloudy day these rays can still cause damage, especially if you are up a mountain on the snow.
UV is not the same as heat.
Many of us go by how warm it is to decide whether or not to protect ourselves with sunscreen. This is a big mistake as UV is measured completely differently to temperature. Yes, the overall UV increases a lot during the summer months although it can also surprise us and be high on any given cooler winters day.
Heading to the snow?
UV radiation increases by 5 percent with every thousand feet you rise above sea level according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. The closer you are to the sun the stronger the sunshines rays are on your skin. Snow is also renowned for reflecting and strengthening the suns rays. Even if it might be incredibly cold you are a lot more likely to get sunburnt.
UVA rays can reach you even indoors.
UVA rays are known to penetrate through clouds but also glass. Your skin may still get damaged if you spend a lot of time by a window soaking up some morning or afternoon sun, or even driving.
UVA Rays cause long term skin damage including ageing and wrinkles.
Sunscreen has many anti ageing properties and keeps your skin nourished. Our skin is prone to becoming a lot drier during winter, so when using SunButter sunscreen you are not only nourishing and moisturising your skin, you are also protecting it from those nasty UVA rays and preventing ageing.
Sun Butter hast two totally natural certified reef safe, factor 50, sun screens. Original and tinted which is great in the cooler weather with it’s added cocoa butter (extra moisture, win!) Giving you a subtle bronze glow (double win!)
I wear mine year round as it’s an important part of my skin care regime.
