Our friend and energy healer Ash Werner from Soul House has shared a wonderful piece on personal boundaries…

I’ve never been good at establishing boundaries. I’ve been pretty piss poor at it actually. I guess it’s the healer in me that wants to help people as much as I possibly can in every way I can, often to the detriment to my own health and wellbeing.

But the absence of boundaries leads to the absence of respect and balance within relationships – both at the professional and the personal level – and ultimately the relationship within yourself too.

Boundaries are an important part of self care. Communicating what is and isn’t tolerable in a relationship signifies your limits to the other person, helping them to identify what is and isn’t acceptable. Ultimately, you’re teaching others how you want to be treated by what you allow, what you stop and what you reinforce. By maintaining your boundaries you are keeping yourself in-tune with your deepest most inner senses because you know where you as a person begins and ends.

Love knows no bounds but it knows boundaries

If you are new to establishing boundaries or have a tendency to enforce them too late like I tend to, some people may react negatively to these newfound limits. The boundaries you form however, are not only important for your own health and wellbeing but for them as well. By creating healthy emotional limits for yourself you are encouraging them to be emotionally independent from your own energy and to stand on their own two feet.

The greatest gift you can ever give someone is to empower them by encouraging them to realise that ‘you got this’ be it directly or indirectly. Trust life and yourself. The more you do, the more you will empower yourself and those around you to do the same.

Everybody deserves love, dignity and respect. This comes from establishing and respecting another person’s boundaries as well as your own.
