Run For Hope Auckland Marathon

Sunday 29 October 2023

I Am Hope is calling on all runners and fitness enthusiasts to join them in the ‘Run for Hope’ Auckland Marathon on 29 October to help promote positive change around mental health and to raise funds to support their “Little People, Big Feelings” program.

Research shows that 40% of youth will have a major crisis often associated with some type of suicidal thinking before they leave school, and 80% of those young people don’t reach out for help because they are worried what others will think, say, or do. I Am Hope aspire to reduce these numbers by delivering the “Little People, Big Feelings” program to primary aged children, with the goal of helping them to feel comfortable talking about their emotions and to seek counselling without fear of being judged or facing negative consequences.

Read on to find out how you can get involved in this fantastic event and help make a difference.

From I Am Hope …

On Sunday 29 October 2023, the Auckland marathon will take place, and we invite you to join us in raising funds for I AM HOPE. By joining our team, you will not only be taking part in a world-class sporting event, but you will also be helping us to achieve our goal of promoting positive change around mental health.

For anyone 25 and under who needs the support of a counsellor go to the Gumboot Friday website here. There is free counselling available for face to face or digital therapy.

At I AM HOPE we’re about NORMALISING THE INNER CRITIC. The voice inside all of our heads that has us second- guessing everything we do. The voice of doubt that beats us up and tells us we’re failures, that we’re worthless. Having an overactive inner critic is not a sign of mental illness, it’s a sign we are normal.

Normalising counselling – It’s just a conversation

Throughout the year the I Am Hope ambassadors visit hundreds of schools with our “Little People, Big Feelings” program. Reading our new TR & Mac book “Little People, Big Feelings” the Ambassadors talk to young primary age kids about how to ask for help and normalise counselling as being  “just a conversation” as well as passing on other coping tools for them to take home and use in times of stress.

The I Am Hope tours are an unfunded service delivered at no cost to schools and communities and all costs are met by our charity.

They need your help to keep up with the growing demand. Together we can build a better informed and more resilient generation of young people and arm them with tools to pass on to future generations.
