hand made rose petal bath bombs on old fashioned plate

These pretty bath bombs are fun to make, and even more fun to use. They have a wonderful rose scent, and the rose petals are released when the ball is immersed in water. The magnesium in the Epsom salts will help soothe away aches and pains while you relax in scented bliss.

You may have all the ingredients on hand, but if not, we’ve created a Bath Bomb Starter Kit (pictured below) made up of Epsom Salts, Baking Soda, Rose Geranium and Palmarosa Rose Essential Oils.  The other ingredients are fairly easy to get.

DIY Rose Petal Bath Bombs

The secret with these is to get silicon molds which are available at craft stores, or else you need to get really good at squashing the powder hard into hand-made bombs.  Makes 12

200g Green Goddess Premium Baking Soda
100g Cornflour
100g Green Goddess Premium Epsom Salts
100g Citric Acid *
15ml Almond Oil
3ml Rose Geranium & 2ml Palmarosa Rose Essential Oil

5-10ml Water – be careful not to add to much at first or you’ll end up with a fizzy mess
2 tbsp Rose Petals **

Put all the dry ingredients except the citric acid into your food processor and whiz fast to combine. Mix 5ml water, oil and essential oil together and slowly pour into the dry ingredients while you have the motor on.
You should now have a powder which when you squeeze really hard will compact. If not you need to add another 5ml of water.

It might seem dry but you need to keep it as dry as possible so that the ingredients don’t react.
Now add the citric acid and whiz to combine.
Pour into a bowl and add rose buds.

Compact tightly into your molds or (if you don’t have molds) squeeze the powder really hard with your hands until it compacts, then place on a kitchen towel to dry for 24 hours. To store place in an airtight container.

*You can buy citric acid in the bakery aisle of most supermarkets.
Instead of almond oil you can use other light oils like jojoba, olive or sunflower.
**You can buy rose petals at some Asian grocery stores or online, or dry your own.
