Triona holding a bunch of cut flowers

Me with a the lovely flowers Grant gave me on my 50th birthday

Aren’t fresh flowers lovely! They make a beautiful uplifting gift, are totally natural, can brighten a room and bring a smile to one’s face in an instant. Flowers can even help to clean the air when they are fresh.

Make the most of your bunch by prolonging their life with this easy to make solution.

I have tried experimenting by adding apple cider vinegar, baking soda and even a coin to the water to help them last longer.

Recently I found this recipe in our archives, it’s from Helen Yemm, a gardening columnist for the Daily Telegraph in the UK.

How To Keep Cut Flowers Fresh

1 litre of warm water
1 tbsp Green Goddess Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp of Green Goddess Premium Oxygen Bleach

Stir together thoroughly before adding the flowers.  Make sure you strip the stems of leaves which will sit below the waterline so they don’t rot, and trim 5cm off the bottom of the flower stems.
