My youngest daughter Pearl and I cleaned out the pantry this week and we were both shocked at how much food we had in there that was either way past it’s use by date or something neither of us ever really intended to eat.

It highlighted to me how much food we waste as we are swayed by cool foods we think we will try some time or by simply being disorganised, which it is fair to say the pantry was. Fortunately Pearl has a unique organisation gene from her father so now the pantry is spic and span, we can clearly see if we need more cans of tomatoes or baked beans and there are no cans of odd food waiting to be sampled.

And as a family we have made a pact that before we go to the supermarket to buy food we check in with the pantry to make sure we use up what we already have.
