There are plenty of lemons around at the moment so why not make this lovely lemonade this week.
Old-fashioned Lemonade
This is such an easy cordial to make up and keep in the fridge. It makes a great refreshing drink poured over ice, or a nice little mixer for gin or vodka. And why not try my Red Wine Lemonade for something different.
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 cup lemon juice
Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil while stirring over a gentle heat. Be patient – you don’t want to rush this part of the process.
Boil gently for five minutes without stirring.
When cool add the lemon juice.
Strain and store in a glass bottle in the fridge.
To use add 2 tbsp lemonade syrup to a glass of water with ice.
Red wine lemonade
Make up 2 cups of lemonade (4 tbsp syrup to 2 cups water) then mix with 2 cups of red wine, such as claret or merlot. Chill in the fridge and to serve pour into wine glasses over ice.
