We’ve had a few emails asking for the dish powder recipe that was in the newsletter last year, so here it is again for anyone who missed it. Of course you can use our ready made Citrus Dish Wash Powder but it is fun and a little less expensive to make your own.

Commercial dish wash powders and tablets contain a lot of nasty ingredients, a couple of years ago I looked at Finish Powerball and couldn’t believe it, there were 25 ingredients as listed on EWG’s site, the product comes with a hazard warning and the Material Safety Data Sheet is seven pages long!

Choosing to go natural is is a big step on the path to keeping your family, yourself and our planet safe from these types of toxic allergens and pollutants.

There’s only three ingredients in this recipe for Lemon Dishwasher Powder which makes enough for approximately 60 washes. If you don’t have the time or inclination to make your own you can always buy our ready made Citrus Dish Powder.

Lemon Dishwasher Powder*

1 ½ cup of Premium Borax

¼ cup of citric acid (purchase from the supermarket)

7 drops Lemon Essential Oil

Place all in a container with a good lid and shake until thoroughly combined, pop in a couple of silica sachets (I save mine from packets of tortillas and the like) this will help to keep dishwasher powder powdery, if it does go a little hard give it a few stabs with a butter knife and a really good shake.

Use 1 Tbsp per load. And fill up the rinse compartment with Premium Double Strength White Vinegar for sparkly dishes.

If you live in an area with particularly hard water add add 2 Tbsp of Premium Soda Ash to this recipe to break down the calcium deposits.
