Screen Shot 2014-07-23 at 1.02.36 PMMy friend Deborah sent me a link to a great video about the French supermarket chain Intermarche selling imperfect fruit and veges which would normally be rejected at a lower price and therefore using up waste. Any person who grows fruit and veges knows that some of them turn out a bit odd looking, that’s nature for you. But supermarkets need their produce to look perfect, so growers are forced to throw away carrots with two legs and tomatoes with twins.
Now Intermarche buys them all up and sells them at a reduced price and the idea has really taken off with consumers.
I think it’s a wonderful idea and something our supermarkets should do too. Have a look at the video here.
