Oops – your furry friend has had an accident on the carpet! How are you best to remove the urine and prevent the area from staining or smelling?
The first thing to remember is that the faster you act, the better the outcome will be. Before doing anything else, if the area is still wet blot it straight away with a clean absorbent towel. The faster you do this, the better.
Once you have removed the excess liquid, make a mixture of 1/4 teaspoon of dish wash liquid – I used our Green Goddess Hemp & Eucalyptus Organic Dish Wash – with one cup of warm water and put into a spray bottle.
Spray the area with the solution and let it sit for a couple of minutes, then blot up again with a clean towel. Rinse the area lightly with warm water and blot again. Repeat this process until the stain fades.
** If you have very old carpet and the underlay has gone brown be very careful you do not over wet the area. If you are worried about staining from the underlay call a carpet cleaner.**
If your stain is still not fading or is yellow mix two tablespoons of ammonia in a cup of warm water and place into a spray bottle, repeat the process above.
To stop the area smelling (especially important for cat urine) take 1/2 teaspoon of tea tree essential oil and mix into 1 cup of warm water. Place into a spray bottle and lightly spray the spot, (don’t over wet), leave to dry.
You can also use Ultra Odour Remover to remove any lingering smells from the air.
