Do you have a tough mineral stain on your toilet bowl that won’t budge? We have several solutions that will help to shift it and keep it from coming back.
One of the most common reasons for yellow stains is hard water. Hard water contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium. When the water evaporates in the toilet bowl these minerals can leave behind yellowish or brownish stains, commonly referred to as limescale or mineral deposits.
How To Get Rid Of Toilet Bowl Stains
There really is no other way than to drain the bowl. You can try to remove the stain without this step but it’s just not likely to work very well.
Step one is to drain the bowl and then rub the stain with some Green Goddess Premium Borax and a little water on a sponge. Do this for a few minutes, then make a ‘paste’ of borax and water and smear it onto what’s left of the stain. Leave overnight.
In the morning spray Green Goddess Double Strength White Vinegar onto the stain and around the inside of the toilet and up under the seat. Leave for ten minutes then wipe clean.
If your stain is still visible, pour enough Double Strength White Vinegar into the bowl to cover the stain, and again leave over night. In the morning add water and clean as usual with Green Goddess Peppermint Toilet Cleaner which will also help keep the bowl white with continuous use.
You should now be stain free!
If it still won’t budge there’s one other not-so-natural option you can try – because who wants a yellowed stained loo!
Go down to your local hardware store and buy some CLR (which is not completely natural but is safe for septic tanks and is most likely your last resort at this stage).
Again you will have to drain your toilet, put enough CLR in to cover the stain. Leave overnight. In the morning add water and flush, then clean with Peppermint Toilet Cleaner and refill the bowl.
After you have removed the stain continue to use 1 cup of Double Strength White Vinegar in the bowl overnight every month to ensure stains don’t reappear.
