I’m not about to put more pressure on mums than they already have but a new study has come out looking at commercial baby food versus home-made and found that home-made is best. This informative article in Slate looks into the difference and points out the ridiculous situation of buying a jar of banana baby food when you can just peel a banana and mash it up.
In my book Mother’s Little Helper I give recipes for making your own rice cereal and a wonderful rice jelly which are perfect first foods for babies.   In this book I also write about how easy it is to puree first foods like kumara, pumpkin, apple and pears, pop them into ice cube trays to freeze, then keep them in the freezer ready to defrost and serve. It’s a great job for grandmas and grandpas to do or friends to help new mums.  Also don’t forget that you can simply puree up your dinner for baby too.
