If you are a grandparent who is raising grandchildren and you need support, advice and guidance you are not alone, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GRG) is a wonderful charity organisation empowering grandparent carers by providing them access to support, advice and advocacy services throughout New Zealand.
Membership is free for any grandparent raising a child full-time and the dedicated and committed Local GRG Support Coordinators are all volunteers experienced in the issues involved in raising grandchildren or someone else’s child.

Grandparents Raising GrandchildrenTM Trust NZ (GRG) is a registered Charitable Trust operating throughout New Zealand providing support services to grandparents who are raising their grandchildren on a full-time basis. Our vision is for a community where grandparents raising grandchildren are empowered to provide a safe, secure and nurturing home for their grandchildren.
For most grandparents, raising their grandchildren is the result of an unexpected and traumatic event that requires a significant readjustment to their lives and the lives of their grandchildren.
Founded in 1999 and established as a charitable trust in 2001, Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust New Zealand is a unique organisation that has a deep understanding of both the long-term benefits for grandchildren being raised by their grandparents and the challenges it can present.
GRG provides specialist support services to over 6,000* full time grandparent and other whānau care families – representing over 9,000 carers raising over 16,000 children and young people in New Zealand. [*September 2022]
These services are focused on strengthening and empowering grandparent and whānau care families so that they can raise resilient and healthy tamariki and rangatahi.
