Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to attend a retreat at Dune Lakes Lodge with Rosemary Wyndham Jones who is a gifted horsewoman, equine specialist and holistic horse and hoof-care professional. Not to mention an all round amazing human being who has dedicated her life to helping others.
On the 21st of August and the 18th of September Rosemary is facilitating an Equine Women’s Circle, these workshops are very beneficial to women who are wanting to learn techniques to strengthen their energy fields, be present and mindful and to form strong healthy sustainable boundaries with others through the magic of horses.

Dune Lakes Lodge is a Retreat and Horse Inspired Learning Centre on the North West Coast of Auckland, New Zealand founded and run by life-long horsewoman, Rosemary Wyndham-Jones.
Rosemary is a natural horse-friendship trainer, an EAGALA Facilitator (Equine Specialist), an EPONAQUEST Riding Focused Instructor and an Holistic Horse and Hoof-care Professional. She also founded the Equine Pathfinders Foundation, a charitable organisation whose mission is to make equine assisted growth and learning accessible to everyone.
Alongside her fourteen strong herd of horses she studies the dynamics and relational development of the horse/human connection. Rosemary has a warm, accepting and welcoming presence, an encouraging, relaxed style of coaching and her intuitive understanding and knowledge of horses is impressive.
Dune Lakes Ethics: to allow horses a free and natural herd-life.
No riding is involved or previous horse experience required.
Horses innately know, even from birth, that to thrive, attachment and connection is paramount. They are grounded and embodied in themselves, they live in the now. Being in their presence naturally brings you into the same place. They are one of our greatest teachers. Their energy field enfolds you just by standing near them. Oxytocin floods your body reducing anxiety, stress, trauma, and depression. Heart coherence happens, your heart rate drops, as can your blood pressure.
Humans, like horses, are also neurobiologically hardwired for connection with each other and in the absence of connection, there is always suffering.
When we take a higher path and open up our awareness, we see the horse as a partner on the journey toward self-discovery. We can let go of the reins, realising we don’t need them to ride the horse. It changes the entire dynamic of the relationship, as there is more trust between the human and the horse, as the human has let go of the need for control, and has instead enlisted a willing partner using a different level of communication that has always been outside the mainstream. For horses it may not be that they are seeking a spiritual awareness, yet, I have no doubt, that the horse, if we are able to listen, can open us to that special soul space.
Horses can bring you to an internal journey to the multi-sensory being that you are – bringing the unconscious into conscious and finding your authentic self, where you discover more of your power, your resilience and your sovereignty.
Part of the solution about finding sanity in this world is with nature and animals. They help us remember that peace and freedom lies within us. In our own heart-beat, in our own breath and in our own deep knowing. Horses are masters of effortless embodied awareness.
