I’ve been back on my bike in an effort to support my new knees and working up quite a sweat. I used to go to the gym for years and was always fascinated by the amount of sugary drinks people would swallow when we all know that unless you are running a marathon, water is really the best hydrator. I then read an article in the New York Times about how milk is actually your best hydrator post exercise. It turns out that when you drink, your kidneys get a signal to rid the body of water and produce more urine. But if you drink milk which contains sodium and potassium, the stomach empties more slowly with a less dramatic effect on the kidneys which means your body holds on to water longer and is more hydrated.
