This recipe is a super easy and fun way to make soap on a rope using a bar of grated Dr. Bronners Peppermint Soap, coconut oil, cornflour, water, and essential oils. The mould I used was quite large; it may be easier to make slightly smaller soaps. There is a good selection of moulds, string, and raffia at Look Sharp and Spotlight stores.
Portia and Grant found the Baymax mould at Look Sharp. I didn’t know who Baymax was having not seen the movie Big Hero 6, but after doing a Google search, I found he’s a quirky, inflatable marshmallow-like healthcare robot, programmed by his inventor (a teenager), to help people with his vast medical knowledge and range of built-in equipment. He even has defibrillators built into his hands.
And now he’s a natural, non-toxic soap on a rope that looks and feels great!
Kids Soap On A Rope
String or raffia
2 Moulds of your choice
1/2 Bar Dr Bronners Peppermint Soap
1 1/3 Cups cornflour
4 Tbl Coconut oil
4 Tbl Warm water
2 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Grate 1/2 the bar of peppermint soap into a glass bowl, add the rest of the ingredients and mix together, it will start to form into a dough like consistency, if this is not happening you can place the bowl over a pan of hot water until it does. Once combined set the bowl aside and leave to cool.
Cut the string or raffia into six pieces each 560mm long, place three pieces together and secure one end, I used a large bulldog clip, plait the rest of the length, when you get to the end loop the string around and tie all six pieces into a knot.
By now the soap should be ready, carefully scoop the soap dough into one side of each mould, add the knotted end of the string and place in the top of the mould then fill the other side of the mould (being careful not to over fill) and press shut. Leave overnight to set then carefully remove the mould, trim off any excess with a stanly knife.
