Grated castile soap for natural grapefruit dish wash.

This recipe is an oldie but a goodie. Sent in by one of our readers, it was given a tweak and first published back in 2014. As with most natural cleaning recipes, there won’t be a mass of bubbles in your sink, but don’t worry, they’re actually not necessary to get your dishes clean.

The original recipe used Sunlight soap as the base of this recipe but I choose to use our Green Goddess Unscented Avocado & Almond Castile Bar Soap instead as it’s totally natural and works just as well.

The Grapefruit Essential Oil in the recipe helps to cover the slight smell of vinegar, which helps to cut through dish grease when washing up.

DIY Grapefruit Dish Wash Mousse

1 cup grated Green Goddess Unscented Avocado & Almond Castile Bar Soap)

1/2 cup Boiling Water
1 cup Green Goddess Premium Soda Ash
2/3 cup Green Goddess Premium White Vinegar
10 drops Grapefruit Essential Oil

I use the food processor, which is what seems to give this the whipped effect but you could try a hand whisk or egg beater.

Pour boiling water over the grated soap in the bowl of your food processor and leave for a few moments to soften it. Then add the soda ash, turn on and mix to blend. Add the vinegar while the motor is running and blend in, then add the essential oil. You should have a lovely mousse. Store in a sealed container.

To use this I put about a tablespoon in the water and give it a good swish to dissolve. This won’t bubble but it cleans really well. Over time this will become a powder but still works just as well.
