As it turns out, sanitising a cutting board is a very easy task. There are different ways to “clean” a cutting board, or mat, regular cleaning, deodorising, and sanitising, this DIY method does all three very effectively.
Gone are the days of soaking boards in watered down bleach and having the harsh toxic odours waft through the kitchen. This method is for wood or plastic boards, all you need are two ingredients plus water to ensure your boards are deodorised, clean and sanitised.
DIY Cutting Board Sanitiser
Cut one lemon in half.
Sprinkle Green Goddess Premium Baking Soda over your board and rub over with one half of the cut lemon, this will deodorise and clean the board while helping to lift out any stains. When done rinse well.
Put one part 3% hydrogen peroxide to one part water in a spray bottle and shake to combine.
Spray your board with the hydrogen peroxide solution making sure the surface is covered and let sit for a few minutes. This will disinfect and sanitise your board.
Rinse again with warm water and allow to dry. Your board is now sterilised and ready for use.
For a quick sanitise use the hydrogen peroxide spray, its tasteless and safe for use on and around food surfaces. In between use spray your board and leave for a few minutes then rinse off and dry.
