Have you looked at the back of a shaving foam label lately? TEA-Stearate, Isobutane, Laureth-23, Tocopheryl Acetate, Capric Triglyceride, and Butane, Propane are just some of the nasty ingredients contained in the aerosol can of Sensitive Nivea Men Shaving Foam that I picked up.

If you’d rather your man didn’t put this foamy chemical concoction on his face, there are plenty of natural alternatives that work well and don’t cost too much either.

This recipe for Coconut Hemp Shaving Cream leaves the skin feeling silky smooth, hydrated and clean; it also is fairly inexpensive to make and will last for around a month when kept in a jar in the bathroom.

DIY Coconut Hemp Shaving Cream

4 Tbls Shea Butter

4 Tbls Coconut Oil

2 Tbls Hemp Seed Oil

2 Tsp Dr Bronners Sandalwood Liquid Castile Soap

4 – 6 drops Bergamot Essential Oil

In a glass bowl over boiling water melt the shea butter and coconut oil until combined. Take off the heat and let cool slightly then add the hemp seed oil, you’d don’t want to heat the hemp seed oil as this effects it’s healing properties, stir to combine the oils then place the bowl into the fridge and leave to go hard.

Next whip your cold cream with a hand mixer until it’s fluffy, then add the Castile soap and essential oil and blend again, store in an airtight jar and use when shaving.

If you’re short on time and would like to try a ready made natural alternative we sell this wonderful beer bar soap made by  Be Natural  in Taranaki for only $10.00, I use it when shaving my legs and love it.
