This recipe is one that my sister, Nadine, shared with me. She lives in an off-grid home with her partner and they make this bread every few days.

In the evening they make the dough and leave it over night, then flatten and cook in the morning. They add salad greens from the garden and an egg or two for their breakfast. How delicious does this look!

Easter is coming up and while we are all at home, it’s a great opportunity to do something fun with the kids. Make this bread and cook it outside on a camp stove or a little fire, pretending you are camping.

This picture is how Nadine and Craig cook their bread.

Cook Anywhere Flat Bread

1/2 cup white flour

1/2 wholemeal flour

1/4 teaspoon yeast (a sprinkle)

1/2 tablespoon sugar

Pinch of salt

This recipe makes two large flatbreads

Stir dry ingredients together with a wooden spoon (NOT metal)  and pour in 1/4 cup warm water (not hot) to activate the yeast.  Stir with wooden spoon.

Knead with hands. Roll the ball of dough in white flour.  Leave in a bowl covered with a tea towel for at least four hours. Overnight works well.

In the morning divide the dough in two, knead and flatten out, giving them a good pummel to make sure they stay flat.

Cook in a pan on the stove, bbq, campfire or grill until slightly brown on each side. Enjoy with toppings of your choice.
