Our dear friend and energy healer Ash from Soul House has written an excellent article on listening to the body’s intuition.

“Contrary to popular belief, your body is working for you, not against you. Whether or not you listen to and follow its guidance is what determines the degree of your health. Your body is one of your greatest intuitive tools.
Aside from automatically carrying out the day-to-day processes that enable you to function in this life, it also provides you with real intuitive guidance.
But how? With gut feelings. Have you ever felt that something wasn’t right? Have you ever felt that uneasy tension sitting in the pit of your stomach? That’s your body communicating with you.”
You can ask your body for guidance when you’re unsure of making a decision. Simply hold the question in your mind and then think about one of the options available to you. Notice how your body reacts when you do this. Does tension arise? For example, in the pit of your stomach or do your shoulders tense and rise towards your ears? Does the pace of your breath change to short, sharp breaths? That’s your body’s way of guiding you towards a no answer. Alternatively, does your body feel relaxed and pleasant? Is your breathing calm, relaxed and deep? That’s your body’s way of guiding you towards a yes answer.
Aches and pains: many people usually get upset with their body when tension and pain arises, however it’s the body’s way of communicating with you that something needs to be addressed or that you need to ease or back off. Notice how the pain persists or elevates when you don’t follow this guidance. Notice how it eases and fades away when you do.

Unfortunately, with the bombardment of ‘information’ increasingly vying for our attention, humanity is slowly but surely numbing the inner guidance of one of their greatest intuitive tools.

We are taught by the media that the body is to look and appear a certain way and when it doesn’t fit the mold we degrade and punish it with negative thoughts and hurtful words. Advertising has taught us to consume packaged goods and lollie supplements to maintain optimal health, yet Mother Nature supplies natural fruits and vegetables that are readily accessible and has no impact on the environment, unless man injects or sprays harmful toxins and chemicals into and on them to ‘enhance’ or make them last longer.

Society has taught us the mentality of “No pain. No gain” or that exercise regimes should be a one size fits all program – be it yoga, cross-fit, etc – by encouraging every body to move in exactly the same way.

However, every body is different and that’s why it comes with its own built in guidance. You are not meant to move, or eat the way other people do. Yes the information available may be helpful to better your knowledge and broaden your limited beliefs and understandings on health and nutrition but it isn’t the only answer or the only way to achieve optimal health.

Because we have become dependent on external information and confirmation, humanity is increasingly de-sensitising itself to the body’s intuitive guidance. If humanity listened more to the body’s guidance there would be less disease, less illness and less injury prevalent. Injury is simply what occurs when you don’t listen to the body’s guidance or when you try to move against the body’s natural movement and rhythm.

Your body naturally tells you when it’s hungry or when it’s full. Yet we eat by the clock rather than following our body’s own internal nudges.

Food is simple and so is taking care of your body. All you have to do is listen. Listen to your body and follow its guidance and your health will continue to unfold in magical ways. Your body is your greatest ally, not your worst enemy.  Ash Werner, Soul House
