Sore Throat Tea

With the colder weather and winter bugs making the rounds, sore throats can seem to appear out of nowhere.

If you're starting to feel that familiar scratchy, irritated throat, this simple homemade tea is well worth trying. I won't pretend it's the most delicious drink you'll ever have -the apple cider vinegar and cayenne certainly let you know they're there - but it's surprisingly soothing and many people swear by it for easing the discomfort of a sore throat.

Apple cider vinegar, fresh lemon and Manuka honey have all been traditionally used to support wellness during the colder months, while a tiny pinch of cayenne provides a gentle warming sensation. Sip it slowly while it's warm (not hot), and repeat several times throughout the day if needed.

Sore Throat Tea

Ingredients

1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

A small pinch of cayenne pepper

Juice of ¼ lemon

A few slices of ginger

1 teaspoon Manuka honey

Hot (not boiling) water

Method
Add the ginger, apple cider vinegar, cayenne, lemon juice and Manuka honey to a small mug. Top with hot (not boiling) water and stir well until the honey has dissolved. Sip slowly while warm.

If your sore throat is severe, lasts more than a few days, or is accompanied by a high fever or difficulty swallowing or breathing, it's a good idea to seek medical advice.
