Whether you're knitting for your own little one, a grandchild, a friend, or donating to a local hospital or charity, this simple pattern is quick to make and suitable for beginners. It uses just one ball of double knit (8 ply) wool and creates a cosy beanie that's sure to be appreciated.
If you enjoy knitting, I'd love to see your finished creations!

Adorable Baby Beanie Pattern
Finished size: Approximately newborn to 3 months (depending on your knitting tension).
You'll Need
1 ball of double knit (8 ply) wool
4 mm knitting needles
Darning needle
Pom pom maker (optional)
Instructions
Cast on: 48 stitches.
Rib
Work K1, P1 rib for 6 rows.
Body
Continue in stocking stitch (knit one row, purl one row) until the stocking stitch section measures 7 cm, ending with a purl row. Your work should now measure approximately 10 cm from the cast-on edge.
Shape the Crown
Row 1: Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (24 stitches)
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (12 stitches)
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: Knit 2 stitches together across the row. (6 stitches)
Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the yarn through a darning needle and pass it through the remaining six stitches. Remove the knitting needle, pull the yarn firmly to gather the top of the hat closed, then sew the side seam neatly.
Add a pom pom if you like, or leave the beanie plain for a beautifully simple finish.
