Mullein & Berry Herbal Gummies
Posted on July 16 2025
If you’re looking for a natural way to support your lungs and ease the effects of bothersome coughs, these homemade Mullein & Berry Gummies are a great remedy to have on hand. Mullein is a herb known for its ability to calm the respiratory system, soothe dry coughs, and support clear, comfortable breathing, and it’s gentle enough for children too.
This recipe has the addition of berry tea and also a touch of coconut sugar to sweeten things up without the need for syrups or refined sugar.
Mullein & Berry Herbal Gummies
2 tbsp dried mullein leaves (or 2–3 mullein tea bags)
2 berry herbal tea bags (like wild berry, elderberry, or mixed berry)
1½ cups water
1–2 tbsp coconut sugar (adjust to taste)
3 tbsp powdered gelatin (or 4 tbsp for firmer gummies)
Method:
Start by brewing a strong herbal infusion. In a small saucepan, bring 1½ cups of water to a boil, then remove from heat. Add the mullein leaves and berry tea bags, cover, and let steep for 15–20 minutes. Strain out the herbs using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Make sure to remove all mullein leaf hairs if using loose herb, as they can be irritating to the throat.
While the tea is still warm, stir in the coconut sugar and optional lemon juice until dissolved.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly until warm but not hot (about 40–45°C / 105–115°F). Sprinkle the gelatin evenly over the surface of the tea and let it bloom (absorb the liquid) for 3–5 minutes without stirring.
Once the gelatin has absorbed and softened, gently warm the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly until the gelatin is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth (do not boil).
Pour into silicone moulds or a shallow glass dish. Refrigerate for at least 1–2 hours until set. If using a dish, cut into small cubes once firm.
Storage:
Keep gummies in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7–10 days.
Suggested Dosage
Adults:
2–4 gummies per day
(can be spaced throughout the day or taken as needed, especially if you're supporting lung health or dealing with a dry cough)
Children (ages 4+):
1–2 gummies per day
(you can start with 1 to see how they respond, especially for younger children)
Notes:
Mullein is a gentle herb traditionally used for respiratory support, and it's considered safe for children, but avoid giving it to babies or toddlers under 3 unless advised by a qualified herbalist.
Because these gummies contain gelatin and natural sugar, moderation is best so treat them more like a supplement than a sweet snack.
If anyone has known allergies to plants in the daisy family (Asteraceae), caution is advised with mullein (though reactions are rare).
If someone is on medications or has a chronic condition, it’s always safest to check with a health practitioner before adding herbal remedies regularly.
