Posted on May 27 2025
Have you ever made marshmallows? This recipe has a twist that makes them good for your gut with no refined sugar!
Unlike the typical store bought sugary kind, these marshmallows are made with marshmallow root, a powerful herb known for its soothing, anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks to its high mucilage content, marshmallow root helps coat and protect the digestive tract, calms irritated mucus membranes, and is especially helpful for sore throats and dry coughs.
These marshmallows are soft, naturally sweet, and made with just four simple, nourishing ingredients. They’re a beautiful example of how traditional remedies and delicious treats can go hand in hand.

I made some homemade marshmallows today. Unlike the marshmallows you buy at the store, these are great for your gut health. These marshmallows are made with marshmallow root.
Marshmallow root is known for soothing the digestive tract thanks to its high mucilage content. It helps to coat and protect the mucus membranes and reduce inflammation. It’s also great for coughs and sore throats.
I made these marshmallows with four simple ingredients, and they are the best marshmallows I’ve ever eaten!
Gut Healing Marshmallows
1 cup marshmallow root tea
3 tablespoons grass fed beef gelatin
1 cup maple syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Combine 1/4 cup of marshmallow root with 1 cup of water. Let it sit and steep overnight.
Strain the tea from the herb and sit 1/2 cup aside.
Pour 1/2 cup into a pot with 1 cup organic maple syrup and bring to a boil. While it’s boiling take the remaining 1/2 cup of marshmallow root tea and mix it with 3 tablespoons of grass fed beef gelatin. Sit it aside to bloom.
Let your maple syrup and marshmallow root mixture boil for 8-10 minutes.
While it’s boiling, dust your pan with cornstarch.
Pour your tea/gelatin mixture into your stand mixer on medium speed and slowly incorporate the maple syrup/tea mixture. Add in two teaspoons vanilla extract. Turn the mixer on high and let it mix until it forms stiff peaks. It should resemble marshmallow fluff. This takes about 10 minutes.
Quickly pour the mixture into your pan, it sets up quickly. Allow the marshmallows to cool in the fridge for a few hours and enjoy!
